How we write our guides
Our guides are for people who run their own Google Ads: owners of small businesses, and the freelancers who help them. Each one tries to answer a single question well enough that you don’t need to search again.
Who writes them
The SpendCanary team, the small team that builds SpendCanary, a tool that checks Google Ads accounts for wasted spend. We write about the same settings our scan checks, so the guides and the product stay in step.
How we make them
- Google’s own help comes first. Every rule, limit and date in a guide comes from Google Ads Help or Google’s developer documentation, and each guide links the pages it relies on under “Sources”.
- We use AI to help draft. AI helps us write first drafts and keep wording plain. A person then checks every statement against the linked Google pages, and nothing is published unchecked.
- We test what we can. When a guide explains a setting we can try, we try it on our own Google Ads test accounts first. We never use a customer’s account or data in a guide, and examples with numbers are examples, not real customers.
- We keep them current. Google changes Google Ads often. When it does, we update the guide and its date. We don’t change the date without changing the guide.
Why we write them
To help you keep your ad budget working. Where our free scan would answer your question faster, a guide says so, but every guide also tells you how to check and fix things yourself in Google Ads, for free. Nobody pays us to mention anything, and SpendCanary isn’t affiliated with Google.
