Opteo alternative for small businesses

By SpendCanary team · Updated · Prices checked

Opteo is a Google Ads management tool for people who run several accounts, with plans from $129 a month for up to 10 accounts and $25,000 of monthly ad spend. SpendCanary is a read-only watchdog for one small-business account, with a free scan and a $19 a month plan. If you manage ads for clients, or you want a tool that makes changes for you, Opteo is the better fit. If you run your own ads and mainly want to know where money is leaking, SpendCanary is the smaller, cheaper tool.

When Opteo is the better choice

Opteo fits better in these cases:

  • You manage more than one account. The Basic plan covers up to 10 accounts, and Opteo says you can connect any mix of manager accounts (MCCs) and single accounts. SpendCanary Watch covers one account.
  • You want the tool to make the changes. Opteo lists more than 40 types of “Improvements,” such as adjusting bids, adding keywords from search terms, excluding low-performing locations and testing ad copy. You review each one and push it live to Google Ads with a click. SpendCanary does not change your account.
  • You want spend control inside the tool. Opteo’s budget page shows a monthly budget setting with an option to pause spend when over budget. SpendCanary does not have a spend cap yet.
  • You report to clients or a team. Opteo offers Google Ads reports and a Scorecard you can export and share.
  • You run Shopping campaigns or want Slack alerts. Opteo has features for both.

Opteo’s pricing page says it has plans both for businesses that run their own Google Ads and for agencies. If your budget can carry $129 a month and you want hands-on management, it is worth a trial.

When SpendCanary is the better choice

SpendCanary fits better when:

  • You run one account for your own business. Watch costs $19 a month, or $190 a year, for one account checked every day.
  • You want to look before you commit to anything. The free scan is a short, read-only script you run inside your own Google Ads account. There is no sign-in and no card, and the report arrives by email in about two minutes.
  • You want a dollar figure, not a score. Each leak comes with an estimate of what it costs you a month, and a plain-English fix.
  • You want specific settings checked. The scan looks at search partners, Display ads inside Search campaigns, Performance Max spend drifting to YouTube and Display, clicks from outside your target area, irrelevant search terms, broken or inflated conversion tracking, Maximize Clicks bidding, target cost per acquisition or target return on ad spend limited by budget, automatically created assets, changes made by auto-applied recommendations, and landing pages that are broken, slow, have no contact details or don’t match the ad.
  • You prefer that nothing touches your account. SpendCanary only reads. You decide what to change.

Using both

Some people use both. Run the free SpendCanary scan first to see which leaks cost the most each month. Then, if you want a tool that makes changes for you across several accounts, start an Opteo trial with that list in hand. If you would rather fix things yourself, our Google Ads audit checklist walks through the same checks one by one.

Common questions

Is SpendCanary a cheaper version of Opteo?
No. Opteo is built to manage Google Ads accounts and push changes to them. SpendCanary only reads one account, puts a monthly dollar figure on each leak and tells you in plain English how to fix it.
Does SpendCanary change anything in my Google Ads account?
No. The free scan and the daily checks only read your account. You make the fixes yourself, and each finding says what to change and where.
Does Opteo have a free trial?
Opteo's website offers a 14-day free trial. Check their pricing page for the current terms before you sign up.
